Creating Sculpted Prims for Second Life

Hello Members! Thank you to everyone that came out and joined us at Kongo Designs for our Halloween party. It was great to see all of the new faces there as well as our long time members. And a HUGE thank you to the Captain for steering us through the night with his awesome jams. We had a fun time! I would also like to take this time to thank Nia Canetti for putting forth the time and effort to create such an awesome event for us all. So thank you to everyone who helped and an even bigger thank you to all of those who attended. Pictures of the event can be seen in the Society Functions group under the Halloween Party folder.

Today's Feature Article has been generously provided by Seraphim Vixen. Her article will provide readers with another method of creating sculpted prims for Second Life. Enjoy!

For sculpted prims i actually use 3 different programs, the easiest of which r ROKURO & TOKOROTEN the hardest of the three is Wings 3D. The reason i like the first 2 so much is u can add a background pic into the programs. U can also use grid to help match the dots around the lines of something u want to create in the background image. I will make a simple background of a triangle and add it to one of the programs so u can see it and also will make grid visible also u can see how u can utilize a background image and grid to create a sculpted prim. Please set your program TOKOROTEN to 16 points u can do this by going to top of screen and using the points dropdown and to add a background click on view and load background u can apply a grid this way also in the same dropdown for this one if u wish to follow along.

A link to Tokoroten can be found below.

(See Figure 1 in the graphic)

U can see the little blue dots and a circle that is the part of the program u will use to create your shape just move the little dots into position around the shape in your background image keeping them close to the lines and spaces as equally apart as possible.

(See Figure 2 in the graphic)

Now we r ready to save our sculpted file u can go to file at the top left of your programs screen and click on it will bring down a drop down menu if u wish to save the text portion to open other files so u may start with this shape then click on export text then save the file make sure u name it then again go to file bring drop down menu now save this project as a .tga file name it so u know what it is. it is now ready to be viewed in Second Life when u get into SL go to file - the first upload option it will give u a preview there is a drop down menu on that preview click on it bring it to sculpted prim u now can see the shape of the prim u don’t even have to finish the upload this is just for preview purpose ok have some fun and enjoy yourself with the great sculpted programs :)

(See Figure 3 in the graphic)

Thank you Seraphim! We'll continue to post article regarding sculpted prim creation as they develop and hope that they are informational and helpful to those of you who wish to pursue this skill further =)
