Exploring SL with Kalena Valentine

Our latest Feature Article has been contributed by Society member Kalena Valentine. When Kalena is not out dominating the Tringo boards and winning the pot, she loves to explore unique locals and has written about two of her favorite SL builds. Have a read and follow the provided SLURL’s to visit these fun builds as I'm sure you'll enjoy them immensely!

Privateer Space
Are you a space junkie in search of the ultimate space sim in SL? If so then Privateer Space is the sim for you. It is a massive multi-level sim dedicated to having its visitors explore the reaches of space. It was created by Aley Arai using well defined textures on megaprims and sculpties and it is astonishing. As you tp into the sim you find yourself at a height of 639m in a space station with a sign before you with your mission " Explore Space! Take the spacebug ship up on the parking deck and fly down below this quadrant. There’s much to see and explore. As a mission bonus, there’s 4 monoliths on the 4 Diferent Planets below, can you discover them all?". A quick spin before you head out on your mission reveals a funky Asteroid Diner where fellow Privateer Explorers are grabbing a bite to eat before the expedition and Asteroid Al's Souvenirs n Gifts where you giggle at the big Duty free Cigarettes sign. Also in the Galaxy Truck Stop you can learn everything you need to know about Asteroid mining at a kiosk and inside the elevator you can equip yourself with a free space suit. Now you are ready to explore. First stop the Space Deck. Here you walk out onto the launch pads and get your first true taste of the immensity of space as asteroids spin before you in the glow of the celestial skies. On the deck you can get a couple more freebies including the trippy zero gravity attachment and your own personal space bug in which you can explore the many levels. Also on the space deck you have a chart of the different levels you can probe including 4 surface areas: planet bob, da moon, planet mars and New Detroit. As well there are different space levels: Confederation Free Space, the Asteroid Belt, the Debris Fields and Gas Nebula. I won't describe each area because truly it is an experience you need first hand as an privateer but I will say each level is as detailed and awe inspiringly as the next. So next you jump into your space bug or just fly the SL old fashioned way up and below this start mark and digest every surface, building, planet and asteroid around you. This sim is one to get lost in for days discovering and exploring all the incredible details and findings.

and be sure to marvel at the hard work and breathtaking creativity of the supreme Privateer Aley Arai.

Tableau
Calling all hopeless, silly romantics!!!! The stars shine and the water glistens as one TP’s into the sim of Tableau. This sim has the perfect combination of a soft enchanting atmosphere mixed with a colorful amusing nature. The centre of the sim is devoted to a beautiful shopping area. As one follows the cobblestone path around the different unique buildings that house clothing, skin, jewelry and even a nice sidewalk restaurant, they are swept into a calming provincial feel by the twinkling strings of lights and the soothing landscaping of trees, a fountain and park benches. Upon venturing out of the shopping area over a quaint bridge it is clear that Tableau has many facets. Included in ones exploration of the sim is an ominous glowing graveyard, a swan ride, gazebos, a spooky house, and the fabulous hilltop Croc de cafe which upon closer examination is an elegant, intimate cabaret with a sparkling stage, showgirl swings and cozy bistro tables. Tableau with all its intricate details is definitely a SL must see to fully enjoy its charm.
